Well I'm here again while the babies are sleeping *touch wood* and decided now was a good time to talk to myself online. LOL. My Hunny and I have really started to try and work out the details of this homeschooling thing. But of course before we got to an agreement there was this HUGE disconnect in the middle about exactly how it should be done. Me, thinking I'll dig up some of my old teaching stuff, lesson plans, get new material, and go from there. Him, thinking that we'll enlist a few other folks to step in and teach while I give them an outline/guideline from which to work. Hoooneeey, I'll tell you it was a hot azz mess trying to get that straight. Because I immediatley began to feel that he didn't have confidence in my ability to teach our children and would rather them be taught by strangers. And he was thinking that he didn't want me to become overwhelmed with being responsible for shaping the minds of our babies, AND having to be responsible for the day to day management of running a household, and then be stressed out. In the end we both had a very clear understanding of where the other person was coming from and both felt that our concerns and considerations had been addressed. I felt so relieved at the end of that discussion and he was so apologetic for making me feel he had no confidence in me.
After all was said and done I reflected on how people will have ideas and thoughts and express them to family and friends and then feel hurt later by the responses those folks may have had to there ideas. And it made me see how things can get out of hand very quickly if folks don't take the time to really hash out and express their feelings in a calm and respectful way without temperatures rising. I really appreciate that my Hunny and I when we do have strong disagreements, that in the end we can work it out without it getting ugly and resorting to name calling and yelling. Because I am always suprised when other folks tell me at how very quickly that happens. Relationships, aren't they just grand? LOL.
Okay my tummy is starting to talk to me, plus I need to wipe the dayum sleep from my eyes cuz I'm writing this blog with double vision. (funny the things I don't care about as far as my looks and appearance goes now that I have babies - who would have known).
That is so great that you and the hubs were able to understand each other. It is something how if you guys hadn't made and effort to understand each other you could have walked around angry with one another for a long time for no reason at all. Good luck with the homeschooling, I am sure you will be able to find tons of resources to aid you. I look forward to hearing about it.
First of all- why on earth have I never seen your husband's GORGEOUS blog. Oh my gosh the pictures of your girls are absolutely breathtaking. Secondly, its amazing the disconnect that can be had in communication since men tend to think with their minds while women tend to think with our hearts/emotions. My feelings are hurt so easily I'm amazed my husband even tries sometimes but bless his heart he hasn't given up on me yet. I think you will be excellent at homeschooling, please keep us posted as you continue to gather together your plan.
My husband and I also had a big time arguement when we first started talking about homeschooling. Unfortunately, I kind of took the reigns and told him to kind of back off because homeschooling was "my thing". That wasn't the best way to handle it. I wish I would have handled it more like you did. I still have a difficult time hearing him out when it comes to the kids! I try, though. Anyway, I've been homeschooling for 3 years, now, and I love it. Everyone does it so differently, so you kind of have to find your own style, but let me know if you have any questions about my experiences. Good luck!
